Visa into Vietnam

In order to enter Vietnam, a visitor needs a Vietnam visa, unless he or she holds a passport of a country in ASEAN and is eligible for a Visa exemption. Below is three types of Vietnam visas. Visa Before Arrival:
  • What: Get the Visa stamped to your passport prior to leaving.
  • Pros: Pay only once. No waiting at the Custom border in Vietnam. Enter the country anyway.
  • Cons: A bit pricy. Must apply at the. Embassy via mail or in person.
Visa On Arrival: 
  • What: Get a Visa Approval Letter, prior to leaving. Then, present the letter at the Custom border along with other documents for visa approval.
  • Pros: Cheaper. Can apply online.
  • Cons: Pay several times during the process. Lenghtly process. Enter the country via air only
E-visa: 
  • What: Get an electronic visa sent to your email’s inbox.
  • Pros: 100% online application.
  • Cons: Single entry only. Non-extendable. Non-refundable when being refused. Only 46 eligible countries. Maximum 30 days validity.
Visa Exemption includes visa exemption for entry, exit and transit: The Government of Vietnam has agreed to extend a three years visa exemption period for 25 countries’ citizens, which will come into effect from 15th March 2022 and run until 14th March 2025. This unilateral Vietnam visa exemption, of which temporary stay period of at least 14 days up to 90 days from the date of entry is being granted by Vietnamese authorities to citizens from these countries in order to promote tourism in Vietnam. Conditions According to Vietnam immigration law, to be eligible for visa exemption, a traveler’s passport must have at least six months of validity with at least 02 blank pages. Regulations on foreigners in the unilateral visa exemption scheme, if the next time they enter Vietnam, they want to use the right of visa exemption, they must wait at least 30 days from the previous date of exit of their stay in Vietnam. Travelers wishing to enter Vietnam using this visa exemption will need to show their return itinerary. Travelers who enter via a land border checkpoint or by cruise are not required to apply for a Vietnam visa in advance. All cases of entering Vietnam with a visa exemption are non-renewable. If you want to continue to stay in Vietnam after the visa exemption period, you can leave Vietnam for neighboring countries or countries in the region such as Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore and return with a new visa exemption. This form is called a visa run. Travelers who exit Vietnam to another, third country (but not their home country) and then return to Vietnam within 30 days from their exit date may apply for a Visa on Arrival directly at the airport without the normal Visa Pre-Approval letter. The validity of this visa on arrival will be according to the return date on the flight ticket, but no more than 15 days.   New Visa Policy From August 15, 2023, Vietnam has a number of new policies and regulations on tourist visas and immigration procedures for foreigners entering Vietnam in the form of tourism: Implement electronic visas (Evisa Vietnam) for citizens of all countries and territories in the world regardless of nationality or country. Increase the duration of tourist visa (DL), electronic visa E-Visa tourist from 30 days to 3 months (no more than 90 days), valid once or multiple times.
